Kurdish artist Keyhan Kelhur awarded Best World Music Album

The 59th Annual Grammy Awards were held Sunday 12 February 2017 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles during which Yo-Yo Ma and his ensemble ‘Silk Road’ that Keyhan Kelhur is a member of it won a Grammy for “Sing Me Home” album. Yo-Yo Ma is an American-Chinese musician known by many as the most prominent cello virtuoso of the century.

This is the sixth time that Keyhan Kelhur, a Kurdish Kamancheh player, composer and master of classical Kurdish and Iranian traditional music was nominated for Grammy. Keyhan Kelhur, aged 53 is from Kermanshah, Rojhilat, Iranian Kurdistan and is a player, composer and master of classical Kurdish and Iranian traditional music. He travelled to study in the northern part of Khorasan province, where music traditions have Kurdish and Turkic influences as well as Persian. kurdish Khorasan people were deported in the Middle ages from Kurdistan to Khorasan by the despotic Persian kings.
